Toyota Finally Adds a Raised Air Intake to the 2027 Land Cruiser

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser is rolling into dealerships this spring with a short but meaningful list of updates. The biggest headline? Toyota is now offering a factory high-mounted air intake, a feature Land Cruiser fans have been requesting since the SUV’s comeback. It won’t change the world, but for off-road enthusiasts, it fills a gap that’s been bugging them for a while.

  • For the new model year, Toyota adds a raised air intake as a factory option. It costs $980 and fits on either trim level.
  • The Land Cruiser’s black exterior color now gets an actual name, “Inked,” and you can now get heated and ventilated second-row seats on the upper LC trim through the Premium Package.
  • Pricing goes up a surprisingly small amount from last year. Both trims are only $280 more than before, with the delivery fee remaining the same.

What the High-Mounted Air Intake Actually Does

If you’ve driven a Toyota 4Runner Trailhunter or a Tacoma Trailhunter, you’ve already seen this type of raised air intake in action. The Land Cruiser now gets the same option, a feature that’s been a hallmark of the TRD Pro and the recently added Trailhunter models.

The intake is positioned high up to pull clean air away from the dust closer to the ground. That’s a real benefit when you’re crawling through dusty trails or backcountry roads where fine particulate gets kicked up into the engine bay.

One thing worth calling out, though. This is not the same as a snorkel. While snorkels are designed to improve water fording by sealing out moisture, this intake isn’t water-tight. So don’t plan on submerging the front end and expecting everything to be fine. It’s designed for dust, debris, and mildly wet conditions rather than deep water crossings.

Unlike Tacoma and 4Runner owners, Land Cruiser buyers in the United States haven’t had an OEM solution easily available. Those who wanted a raised intake had been forced to turn to the aftermarket or go to the lengths of sourcing a Toyota-made option from other markets, making installation a DIY affair. Now, you can check a box on the configurator and get it straight from the factory for $980.

New Color, Comfier Rear Seats, and More Options

The raised air intake isn’t the only update on the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser. There’s also new paint, a black called Inked. The full 2027 color lineup includes Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Underground, Inked, Meteor Shower, Trail Dust, and Heritage Blue. Two-tone is also available, blending a Grayscape roof with either Trail Dust or Heritage Blue.

For rear passengers, there’s now the option of heated and ventilated second-row outboard seats. These comfy thrones are included as part of the Premium Package, which costs $4,905 this year, up from $4,355. The Premium Package also includes 14-speaker JBL audio, light-up running boards, a power moonroof, leather seats, and more comfort and convenience extras.

Buyers can also add a rear bumper guard and liftgate light. Other available extras include 20-inch gray alloy wheels ($1,240), a moonroof ($850), and a console cool box ($170).

Pricing and Powertrain for 2027

Pricing is set to start at $57,880 for the base Land Cruiser 1958 and $63,995 for the Land Cruiser, while dealer processing will set you back a further $1,450. Fully loaded, a 2027 Land Cruiser can climb past the $73,000 mark.

The one and only powertrain option for the 2027 Land Cruiser is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid, packing 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive come standard, along with a locking center and rear differential. That turbocharged hybrid four-cylinder might sound modest on paper, but the torque figure tells the real story. It pulls hard and sips fuel better than you’d expect from an SUV built on a body-on-frame platform.

The Land Cruiser’s off-road capability starts with standard full-time four-wheel drive, low-range gearing, and locking center and rear differentials. A skid plate protecting the engine, transmission, and transfer case is also standard, as are recovery hooks front and rear.

Is the 2027 Land Cruiser Worth the Price of Admission?

The updates for 2027 aren’t a redesign or a major overhaul. They’re targeted additions that address specific requests from buyers and enthusiasts. The raised air intake is the kind of factory option that saves you the headache and expense of going aftermarket.

As of the end of Q1, the SUV was down 47.6 percent year over year (8,083 sales versus 15,416 sales in 2025). That’s after posting a 50-percent improvement throughout all of 2025, as sales didn’t start to slip until December of last year. Whether additions like the air intake and improved rear-seat comfort help reverse that trend remains to be seen. But for buyers who’ve had the Land Cruiser on their wish list, the 2027 model year sweetens an already capable package with a few upgrades that make a real difference on the trail and on long road trips alike.
