2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Speck Reviews
2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback has had a passport stamped more than a few times. Debuting next week at the 2018 New York auto show, the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback projected by Toyota on Friday is clearly international.
The new Corolla Hatchback replaces the Corolla iM in Toyota’s ranks, and like its predecessor, the first passport stamp was in Europe. There, the hatchback is known as the Toyota Auris, and it’s completely new. That’s important because it helps explain the new five-door five-door dimension – just 172 inches from the bumper to the bumper – and the continental style. The Corolla Hatchback line is wider and sharper than the Corolla sedan that will share the showroom. Up front, standard LED headlamps on SE and XSE trim levels give the appearance of a beak. At the rear, its cut tail repeats the iceberg-like style with a large spoiler occupying the residence at the top of the hatchback.
2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Interior
The Corolla Hatchback interior is equally Euro-style, with a no-nonsense approach. An 8-inch touch screen for infotainment occupies residence above climate control and includes standard Apple CarPlay (but no Android connectivity). The Corolla Hatchback XSE with higher specifications also includes a 7.0-inch TFT in the instrument cluster and can be further enhanced with JBL-branded speakers.
Toyota makes standard upholstery on SE trim, while mixed leather and fabrics adorn XSE trim seats. All trims have leather steering wheel, automatic climate control, ignition without lock, and USB port. The XSE trim has a heated front seat, power adjustment for the driver’s seat, and contrasting sutures on the door and instrument panel.
Toyota says there is room for five in the Corolla Hatchback, but the automaker has not released specifications for its cargo-hauling capabilities. However, a few inches shorter than the five-door version of the Honda Civic.

2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Powertrain
Under its hood, the Corolla Hatchback features a 2.0-liter inline-4, but Toyota does not set horsepower or torque figures. Reaffirming the Euro-centric bonafides, it comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission. Continuous variable automatic transmission (CVT) is optional on both trim levels, where it is equipped with paddle shifters to simulate 10 stepped teeth.
The Corolla Hatchback has a fully independent suspension underneath, an upgrade over the torque-beam arrangements found in the Corolla sedan. Wheel size ranges from 16 to 18 inches.
2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Features & Prices
Like most other Toyota, the Corolla Hatchback has a high-impact collision avoidance technology as standard – automatic emergency braking that detects pedestrians and cyclists, adaptive cruise controls, and active lane controls, as well as high-automatic spotlights.
The 2019 Corolla Hatchback will be built in Japan – another stamp on its passport – before being sold in the US this summer. Pricing will not be announced until close to the date of sale, but will likely not be far from the Corolla iM base price of approximately $ 19,500 in 2018.
