2018 Toyota Corolla is the white bread of a new car. Satisfy sustenance without much excitement; a car that does its job with just a little talent.
It’s not an insult. Toyota has sold more than 40 million Corollas globally over the last few generations and the car is the same as a household name like Wonderbread.
The latest Corolla rolled into 2018 which is largely identical, aside from the removal of the 50th anniversary special edition (51st anniversary does not have the same ring). The blatant makeup mirrors are now standard on all models, while the XLE and SE models add three steering wheel leather pads to their equipment list.
Important note: Toyota offers two different versions of the Corolla, each with its own story to tell. We’ve classified them-Corolla sedans and Corolla iM hatchbacks-because they share their basic names and views about life. The Corolla iM, known briefly as Scion iM before the brand was folded into Toyota’s portfolio, is essentially a 5-door European market hatchback. It has its own interior design and, underneath, the suspension is much more sophisticated. Our rank is based on the sedan, which significantly outperforms iM, but we’ll note the difference between the two designs as necessary.
The Corolla sedan is available at L, LE, LE Eco, XLE, SE, and XSE trim levels, all equipped with 4 cylinder power and high commendably standard safety equipment. The Corolla iM is offered in just one configuration whose slot is roughly equivalent to the Corolla SE sedan.

2018 Toyota Corolla Styling
Not bad on the inside, but the Toyota Corolla somehow managed to be awkward without pulling outside.
Always something of a wallflower, the Toyota Corolla is not the kind of car that will make you stand out in the parking lot. For many of us, it’s okay.
L and LE trim levels are the most humble group, with plastic hubcaps covering their steel wheels and a little on the outer side. SE and XSE trim levels are more prominent with their stylish wheels and some revisions on their front and rear bumpers. Even so, they are not sporty enough, considering how tall they sit. In the real world, it does not matter because the Corolla has a very high ground ground 6.7 inches.
Inside, the almost vertical dashboard presents all the controls in a logical, easy-to-sort manner. This is not the most stylish look, but the Corolla interior is nicely done with the use of attractive blue lighting, attractive chair fabric on most models and a pleasant contrasting stitching across the edge of the dash. Unfortunately, even the loaded models have some empty buttons that reduce the fun atmosphere.
We prefer the more expressive style of Corolla iM. As a five-door hatchback, it has a long roofline and a larger greenhouse for passengers and equipment. Some neat stylish touches give the impression Europe – which is not too surprising because it is sold globally with little change like the Toyota Auris.
Inside, however, the Corolla iM dashboard is almost identical to the Corolla sedan-although its infotainment system is not so well integrated.

2018 Toyota Corolla Performance
All Corolla models are powered by a 1.8-liter engine version of the inline-4; Most of what you will find in many dealerships will be equipped with CVT, but a 6 speed manual can be given on the Corolla SE sedan and on the Corolla iM hatchback. 1.8 liters put 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque in most versions of the sedan; LE Eco uses a special valve timing system to save fuel that has fun side effects by adding 8 hp (albeit at a cost of 2 lb-ft).
The Corolla iM version of this bike is rated 137 hp and 126 lb-ft, but we will not lose too much of it if you are. In terms of acceleration, everything is adequate. The CVT forces them to spend a lot of time with higher engine speeds, but turning out enough sound and a decent stereo should make most of the engines rumble.
Thick framed three-tiered steering wheels (now wrapped with leather at all except L and LE trim levels) hinted at the sporting ability that, even on SE and XSE trims, was not there. The Corolla steering is light with minimal feedback from the road. It makes the job done with confidence, but it’s nothing to play with. Same goes for the Corolla sedan suspension, which offers many wheel journeys to absorb large bumps and thereby provides a gentle ride and a considerable amount of body leans around the bend.
The high-tech Corolla iM rear suspension ends with a slightly more curved road duct. It rises a little more strongly, but does not get to the point where most road imperfections will jostle the passengers.

2018 Toyota Corolla Comfort & Quality
The 2018 Toyota Corolla examines all the right boxes above on paper, but the reality does not feel as good as the high sticker price asks the buyer to pay.
We have given it extra points for front and rear comforts but have reduced one for the generally low rent span that is increasingly non-existent in many of its competitors.
All models have adjustable driver’s seats; it is adapted to power on the Corolla XLE and XSE models, which also feature synthetic leather seats that do not quite feel like the actual McCoy but should be worn better over time. Both front seats were supportive and sufficiently supported. There is good leg room at the rear, although the three parallel is rather narrow for long trips.
There is no fancy Corolla in it, but we have high hopes for XLE and XSE models. There are many glossy and too thick plastic trims where some of its rivals include metallic metals or soft touch panels. In addition, the infotainment system in the Corolla iM is not integrated primarily into the dashboard, looking like an aftermarket unit purchased at a large box electronic retailer. The lower version of the Corolla is littered with an empty switch inside it, a reminder that you can spend more. Competitors do a better job by hiding the lack of their features.
Sure, the Corolla is not positioned to compete with compact versions of compact sedans like the Mazda 3 and Honda Civic, but it would be nice to see Toyota try a little harder here.
2018 Toyota Corolla Safety
The 2018 Toyota Corolla is a very safe small car, regardless of the buyer’s chosen model. We applaud high standard safety equipment and federal and independent testers praised his negligence.

Finally, the Corolla XLE and XSE have electric driver seats, heated front seats, and lock proximity. The XSE model differs from XLEs especially on the exterior styling and interior finish.

In particular there are not a few upscale options such as branded premium audio, large moonroof, leather seats, and air-conditioned seats-a feature available in many rivals. The difference, however, is the fully charged Corolla sedan is above about $ 24,000, while some competitors approach or even exceed $ 30,000. If you want a small decad car experience, you should shop elsewhere. Be prepared to pay for it.
The Corolla iM hatchback is equipped like a Corolla SE sedan. The only buyer of choice needs to be made, in addition to color, whether they want a manual or CVT.
