Mazda 2018 Mazda adds standard active safety features to the value that has been forced. Among other compact cars, this is one you should consider.
2018 Mazda 3 is not cheap in fun-even with its low price tag. This is an affordable and fun compact or hatchback sedan that’s acceptable in many situations – back, interstate, or city road.
Standard on all models of this 3-year Mazda is an automated emergency braking system, dubbed Smart City Brake, which can prevent low-speed collisions. IIHS independently rated this system as “Advanced” and noted that the system prevents forward collisions to 12 mph. A more advanced secondary system called Smart Brake is available which can stop the car at higher speeds.
Not all improvements Mazda 3 years has been additive. The automaker quietly saves the regenerative braking system from previous years which has little impact on overall fuel economy.
Mazda has also limited the standard 2.0 liter inline-4 to just the basic sport model of the year. Higher output, 2.5 liter inline-4 is now available on Touring and Grand Touring sedans and hatchbacks, which carry a clear bump (155 horsepower vs. 184 hp) and paired with better interior materials.
The basic model does not skimp on equipment. Each Mazda 3 comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless ignition, Bluetooth connectivity, and 7.0 inch infotainment screen – that’s what you can see. What you can not see is an intelligent system that clenches the brakes to shift the weight forward to the front wheels to carve a much tighter line around the corner.
It all starts at a price below $ 19,000, including the goal, which makes Mazda 3 an exciting value that happens to be fun to drive.

2018 Mazda 3 Styling
2018 Mazda 3 stands pat with better exterior look and nice interior layout.
Nothing Mazda did revolutionary, but rather excel at the little things we already know. The overall proportion of Mazda 3 is rather “cab-back”, which mimics our eyes with rear proportions. “The smiling face” of the nose of Mazda 3 thankfully disappeared, and the remaining look like an angry kabuki mask, in our opinion.
The rear glass pillar is 4 inches further than the hood, which gives more drama to the little car. His impulse will never be equated with the performance of a sports car, but his athletic profile hints at a more comfortable riding setting and more rigorous travel.
The sedan and hatchback both share a shoulder line that sweeps the entire door to the back light. Mazda’s smoothness does not become boring, and their cars manage to look pretty simple.
The hatchback uses a sleek fastback roofline for a slimmer shape that cuts out usable space. Model sedan and hatchback also rounded the back end, which used a slightly better sedan. We still chose the hatchback for its more functional shape, but we received the taste differently.
Inside, Mazda 3 is focused on the driver with the instrument and the control display slightly tilted towards the driver. The LCD meter remains the same (although we hope they reconsider it) and the Grand Touring model offers “skin rough” skin that helps brighten the dark interior.

2018 Mazda 3 Performance
2018 Mazda is not fun to drive because it is a very good thing. It’s fun to drive because it’s a lot of little things better than other cars.
The standard engine in Sport-trimmed sedan and hatchback is a 2.0 liter inline-4 that produces 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. This suits quite a task of bringing the compact to speed, but it does not find much inspiration under 4,000 rpm. Passing through a busy machine needs constant attention to the throttle, which briefly reduces fuel savings. The 2.0-liter engine can be mated to a 6-speed automatic or sharp 6-speed manual.
Match better for Mazda 3 is a machine found in Turing and Grand Touring trims, which has inline-4 manual 2.5 liter equals 6 manual or automatic. Larger engines are responsible for 184 hp and 185 lb-ft, which touch our sweet spot to gain strength. This is equivalent to Honda Civic and the best talent in the class, and it should be enough to satisfy most of the drivers without sacrificing the economy.
The secret sauce is Mazda’s approach to handling it. Last year, the automaker added a clever G-Vectoring Control system that moves to shift torque based on steering input. The result helps cut the head throw, but also helps confidence when cornering.
Mazda also played around with the electric steering setup that has a generous on center at low speed, but increased intensity and intention at higher speeds. Might be a little nervous at strange speeds on the road, straight with a pencil, but this is a gift when the streets become interesting.
We love the “organ-style” low-wheel accelerator pedal and good clutch uptake in the manual model. We will not blame buyers who opt for automatic transmission-paddle shifters help click through the gears quickly and sharply.

2018 Mazda 3 Comfort & Quality
The exterior of Mazda 3 writes a check that the interior is struggling for cash.
If Mazda 2018 has an Achilles heel, it’s in the basic dimension. It can not cope with the compact footprint of his car, and we will feel comfortable to entertain the crowds.
Last year, Mazda added more sound insulation inside to make the journey quieter and quieter. This mostly works, based on our experience, and combined with Mazda’s new “G-Vectoring” control system that helps reduce head throws, the journey is largely composed.
The cabin is full of high-quality plastic and cost cuts, which is almost inevitable at the low price of small sedans.
The front seats are supportive and comfortable, with enlarged front pads and larger backs that offer more natural positions. The base cloth layer did not feel too durable, but the contrasting holes in the Grand Touring-trimmed car approached the luxury.
The rear passengers do not get the same care with the narrow leg room and the lower roofline that cuts into the headroom. Lack of vertical space can be slightly reduced by avoiding optional sunlight – or by calling a rifle.
The straw only has 12.4 cubic feet, but the folding rear seat can help in an emergency.
The hatchback climbs the cargo space to 20.2 cubes with upholstery up, or 47.1 cubic feet with upholstered seats.
2018 Mazda 3 Safety
The big news for 2018 Mazda 3 is the addition of automatic emergency braking on all models as standard equipment. System called Smart City Brake Support, can help sedan or hatchback avoid forward collision at low speed (12 mph or below).
Federal testers have given Mazda 3 sedans and hatchbacks a total score of five stars, including a four star rating in a calculated rollover accident. IIHS called Mazda 3 as Top Safety Pick + last year, a designation likely to be repeated this year.
All Mazda 3 models come with a rear-view camera, and the Touring and Grand Touring model adds a standard blind-spot monitor with cross-link traffic alerts. More advanced and high-speed automatic emergency braking systems are available on the Grand Touring model as an additional cost option that also adds active line controls, adaptive cruise controls, and automatic high beams.
The IIHS Top Safety Pick + award requires the top Grand Touring model with LED lights, which have been rated as “Acceptable” by the agency. The standard halogen projector on the Sport and Touring model is rated “Marginal” by IIHS and is not eligible for the award.
Thick door pillars and curved windows make quite bad in the sedan, but the hatchback glass that is enclosed on the back makes the rearview camera and blind spot monitor more usable – practically they are obligatory.
2018 Mazda 3 Features
He 2018 Mazda 3 comes standard with a nice set of features that makes a pricetag for $ 19,000 a direct offer.
The basic version, called Mazda as the Mazda 3 Sport, offers 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless ignition, rear-view camera, automatic low-speed emergency braking, and 7.0-inch infotainment screen.
It is a good standard equipment, made even better with an impressive 7.0 inch touchscreen. We just complain The Mazda infotainment system frustrates us, and we shave it for that. There are rumors that the 2018 Mazdas will get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto immediately turned on, but as of this writing, the feature is still disabled.
Stepping to the trim level Mazda 3 Touring adds a line of leather sporting synthetic ranks, dual-zone automatic climate controls, customizable driver seats, warm front seats, and larger engines. Mazda also provides premium audio, sunroof, and darker wheels on Touring trimmed cars.
The Grand Touring model adds leather upholstery, head up display, and LED lights. Premium package on the Grand Touring model adds navigation, more active safety features (seperately closed), and handshakes.
The Mazda 3 Sport model starts at $ 18,970 for the sedan version with a manual transmission, including the destination. Choosing automatically adds $ 1,150 to a slim level, and chooses a hatchback of adding $ 1,250 on the Sport model, $ 750 for Touring and Grand Touring models.
Loaded Grand Touring models above under $ 30,000, stealing relatively compared to the others.
