2018 Genesis G80 Sport Canada Reviews

Now in its second year as a stand-alone brand, Genesis is expanding its luxury ranks with the new Sport G80 turbocharged model. If anyone is wondering whether Hyundai, the parent company where Genesis is playing, is meant to compete seriously in the luxury segment, no wonder.

For 2018, the G80 adds a 3.3T Sport level. Powered by a turbocharged V6 and powered by performance-adaptive performance suspensions, the 3.3T Sport promises to embed the ranks with a performance level equivalent to its European competitors. Until now, we’ve found the G80 is a very good cruiser and commuter, but only passable when trying to create a frenzy around the corner and turn.

A sprinkling of other new features, such as adaptive LED lights and wireless device charging, adds an impressive list of standard and optional G80, a list that generates more money when equipped with similar luxury sedans. And therein lies the appeal of the G80, the car where your money goes further.
There are some compromises, of course. Inside you will find quality and expertise at the level of your European and Japanese counterparts, but the back room is somewhat cramped for this class of cars. We also found that standard suspensions do not offer the sophistication of rival rivals that are tight and tight. And some buyers may strongly resist the Genesis G80 that does not have panache or brand recognition from its established rivals. From our perspective, the price of the G80 atones for these sins. This is a highly desirable mid-sized luxury sedan.

What’s new !

For 2018, Genesis sprinkled several new features, such as optional wireless device charging and adaptive LED lighting. More importantly, the G80 gets a new Sport trim that comes with a turbocharged V6 engine.

We recommend

Even in the standard 3.8 trim, 2018 Genio G80 comes with premium features enough to feel a decent luxury sedan. You can choose a basic trim with Premium and Ultimate options package, but that’s not what we’ll get for the new 3.3T Sport. Basically 3.8 with both option packages and an upgraded engine, the 3.3T comes with a saucier engine (more 54 horsepower), better wheels, additional styling expand and adaptive suspension. It costs over 3.8, but we think its performance is very valuable. That’s what we’ll get.

2018 Genesis G80 Sport Features

2018 Genesis G80 is a five-star luxury sedan available in three trim levels: 3.8, 3.3T Sport and 5.0. The amount of soup is correlated with the underhood machine size. For a basic trim level, the G80 3.8 is something fundamental, with a wealth of standard features equal or highest in its class. G80 5.0 adds larger wheels and small trim enhancements, but more famously from the V8 engine. G80 3.3T Sport is more oriented to driving performance with V6 turbo engine and dynamic suspension.

The 3.8 G80 starts with a 3.8 liter V6 engine (311 horsepower, 293 pound-feet), eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional.
Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlamps with automatic high beam, LED daytime running lights, rearview camera, hot auto-dimming side mirror, automatic wipers, flow-adjusting cruise control, dual zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition and Entry, and hands-free auto-opening trunklid.
Inside the cabin there are eight-way power front seats (with four-way lumbar heating and adjustment power), leather upholstery, adjustable steering wheel, driver memory settings and auto-reflected rearview mirror. Technological features include an 8-inch touchscreen interface, navigation, Apple CarPlay integration and Android Auto smartphones, Genesis Connected Services telematics systems, two USB ports and a seven-speaker audio system with CD player and satellite radio.
Blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alerts, lane departure warnings and interventions, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection are also standardized. The all-wheel-drive model also comes with wash lamps, hot rear seats and a warm steering wheel.

G80 3.8 also offers two optional packages. Premium package includes LED foglights, front and rear parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats (on rear-wheel drive models), rear and side window shades, wireless device charging pads, Lexicon 14- Audio speaker system and display Enhanced driver information.

The Ultimate package is built on the Premium package, adds rotating LED lights, power trunklid, upgraded leather upholstery and driver seat adjustment, matte wood and aluminum trim, head-up display, 9.2 inch touch screen, multiview / parking camera rearview, Lexicon 17-speaker audio system, and carbon-dioxide sensor for climate control system.
The new G80 3.3T Sport includes the Ultimate package feature (minus LED foglights) and a further advantage of a 3.3 liter turbocharged V6 engine (365 hp and 376 lb-ft), 19-inch wheels, adaptive suspension, sport front seats, a Simulated suede Headliner, carbon fiber interior trim, and dark chrome exterior trim.
The G80 5.0 Ultimate comes in like a 3.3T Sport, but uses a 5.0 liter V8 engine (420 hp, 383 lb-ft). When equipped with an optional all-wheel drive, 3.3T Sport and 5.0 also include a

2018 Genesis G80 Sport Interior

With a wheelbase of an inch or longer than other luxury sedans, the G80 offers a cabin and a cushioned passenger space. The rear legroom is comparable to other sedans, though the more rigid backroom is a tap in this otherwise reverse cabin.

quality

Materials on the dash, door and seat are as good as those in the classroom, and no interior parts or panels are visible even with the smell of cost cutting. Excellent assembly rates are almost equivalent to German or Japanese premium sedans.

2018 Genesis G80 Sport Technology

In keeping with its class car, the G80 comes with useful technology, including an 8-inch touch screen, navigation system, Apple CarPlay smartphone integration and Android Auto, and emergency telematics services.

Audio & navigation

The navigation system with an 8-inch touchscreen interface comes standard, as well as a seven-speaker audio system with USB input and Bluetooth streaming. Two optional Lexicon audio upgrades are available, one with 14 speakers and one 17 other speakers.

Smartphone integration

The integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard, as well as Bluetooth handsfree phones and streaming audio and dual USB ports (one combination of data port / charge, one dedicated charging port).

Driver’s tool

The G80 adds automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection to the range of propulsion aids, which also includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, rear-cross alert, lane departure alert and lane driver assistance.

2018 Genesis G80 Sport drive

We have not distributed the new 3.3T Sport trim, but the usual G80 is not a sports sedan, whether the V6 or V8 is inexperienced or whether the motor and transmission response is adjusted to Sport mode. The G80 prioritizes the convenience of glides on sharp vibration shocks.

Acceleration

The usual V6 and V8 engines feel powerful, with the V8 clearly having a low-end punch and smooth linear power delivery. V8 makes the G80 compete with other luxury sedans. V6 base is strong enough to satisfy most buyers.

Driving

The incident responds appropriately to the input of the wheel. Modes that can be selected by the driver vary the steering efforts.

Handling

Despite having a straight-line cruising ability, the G80 depends on a polite angle, with a better handle than its bulk predicted.
